Lucy Air Ambulance Transfer Premature Twins

Lucy Air Ambulance Transfer Premature Twins

CAN Mezzanine customer, Lucy Air Ambulance, have carried out two separate transfers of premature twins.

In July, Lucy Air Ambulance (Lucy ACC), based at CAN Mezzanine, Borough, received two separate referrals to transfer twins to different hospitals. In the case of the first transfer, the family were on holiday in Cornwall and not expecting the arrival of their twins. When the transfer took place, the twins were only ten days old. By pure coincidence, just two weeks later, with the timely arrival of a new transport incubator, the ‘Voyager’, the second transfer from Bristol to Preston took place. In each case, due to space restriction within the aircraft, each twin had to be transferred separately.

Lucy ACC are a dedicated fixed wing air transfer service flying seriously ill babies and children from local hospitals to specialist care units within the UK.

Lucy ACC’s Medical and Family Liaison Manager, Nicola Cleave assisted with both transfers.

“I focus on the family and children involved and what the transfer would mean to them practically. I also offer them the support they need leading up to, during and following the transfer. Other aspects include coordinating and confirming cot/bed availability, travel arrangements and keeping the family fully informed throughout this process.”

During the first transfer, from Cornwall to London, Nicola was able to meet the parents in person.

“They were understandably quite overwhelmed by it all. It was a very special moment and it was a privilege to be representing Lucy ACC.”

Half Marathon challenge for Lucy Air Ambulance

In order to support its important work, as highlighted in the twin transfers above, Lucy Air Ambulance will be taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October.

Four of its members of staff will be running the marathon, including two of its trustees. CAN Mezzanine’s Business Manager, Claire Mott, will also be joining the team to raise money for the important ambulance service.

“After much deliberating about committing to another long run, it took a short amount of time to make my mind up to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon for Lucy Air Ambulance.

“Being a Mum myself to an adorable rascal of a three-year-old, it hit home how critical it is to have the funding and facilities of an air transfer service for children.

“After burying my head in the sand for some time, I am now on a running programme and typically pound the roads and parks of Chislehurst in Kent two to three times a week. I am thoroughly enjoying my training programme and would greatly appreciate if you could donate whatever you can to help fund these vital air transfers.” – Claire Mott, Business Manager, CAN
